The Battle of Vaalkrans or Vaal Krantz was fought from 5 to 7 February 1900. It represented another futile attempt by the British forces to relieve the siege of Ladysmith. Vaal Krantz was a ridge of small hills. As was the case in the Battle Spionkop, they captured the ridge but retreated.
In this case, General Buller felt the area was too small to mount a concerted attack on the Boer forces under the command of General Botha.
